Practicality is something highly appreciated by most people now. Money is something which we would not want to be wasted nowadays. Although I have lived in the city all my life, there is a part inside me that longed for the serenity and calmness of the countryside that is why as soon as I have enough savings I bought a pretty little cottage in a land surrounded with big oak trees and wildflowers.
I was extremely lucky to be able to find and acquire such an amazing property at a very reasonable price hence, once I had the money I immediately bought it. I just need to fix the place a bit and the first item on my list is installing solar screens for windows because I am such a mosquito and bug magnet. The woods maybe cool and cozy but I know that I am not the only living creature there so I have to make sure I am protected especially from insect bites.
I already talked with a contractor and most likely after a couple of days I will already have the money to finally put the screen up and I could start staying there even during weekends. |

The rule of thumb has always been that kitchens and everything inside it must be immaculately clean and pristine. This must have been the reason why most kitchens are white. White tiles, white kitchen floor, white marble countertops and what-have-yous. But for the unconventional home owners and home makers who are dying for that splash color – there's some small things we can do without totally remodeling or renovating the kitchen.
I say this because it would be impractical to tear down the whole set of kitchen floors and tiles and replace them if they are still in good working condition. However, it would be relatively easy and inexpensive, to remove a small portion and redecorate it. Say for example, creating a colorful glass tile backsplash (just to get rid of the old boring white ones). The kitchen backsplash would not use up very many pieces of tiles, so it won't cost a lot. Not to mention that it is very easy to install and quite quick to dry up. You can go back to using the kitchen sink just a few hours after you put the glass tile backsplash in. |

After a horrific attempt and wonderfully succesfull failure of multiple plants in the 2010 container gardening season, I am re-attempting for 2011. Last year the winds took out most of the plants and the few that did not get leveled all had their fruits were blown off. I am hopeful that this year will be more fruitful. I've completely resoiled all of the planters and this year added a slow release fertilizer. I've even added a pop up gazebo to shelter some of the new growths. I've spent a lot of money at the local farmer and greenhouse to get tough Wisconsin hardy plants. Talked with said farmer for any tips and hints for a few hours. They have been planted with love and care. Already in two weeks time I am having to head back to the farmer to get two replacement plants. Hopefully she will not see me until next year after this visit. Happy growing season 2011 to all. |

With all the environmental problems we are faced with today, it seems that more and more people are becoming passionate about these issues. Some are even going so far as to converting their home’s power source from electric lines to solar panels or traveling to far flung places to replant entire rainforests. There are lots of people who basically dedicate every aspect of their lives to saving Mother Earth!
But we don’t have to go to such extremes to be able to help out and do our part. We can incorporate this to the little things we change in our homes…including our kitchen lighting!

And not only do these light bulbs save energy, they are also very aesthetically pleasing. They don’t look ugly or garish at all! I like my house more than all other places in world, and I want to use all kinds of technologies and designs to make my house better. I'd love to have a computerized system in my home. It should recognize me whenever I stand in front of the doors and it should automatically open and should allow only people who are allowed to enter home - it would be a state-of-the-art cctv home security system.
I'd also like to have robots as the servants in my home. These robots would even be able to identify the feelings of humans and react to those feelings. These robots would be programmed to help us humans if we're suffering from stress - perhaps they could chat to us and make us feel better. We'd feel like these robots weren't just servants, but friends also - they could give us advice based on their encyclopaedic knowledge of the human condition - one but can dream! |
