If you run your own company, then you will need to be very aware of the laws with regards to health and safety. There are a lot of people who think that they are rather over the top and getting out of hand. However, you need to be able to protect yourself against work accident injury claims.
Of course, you will want to look after your employees. You will want to make sure that they are properly protected against accidents. You will have the necessary safety equipment and put them on training courses on how to use them and things like that. This is important because they will then be able to look after themselves. If they do not take the proper precautions, then it will not be your fault.
However, sometimes things happen which you have not controlled. Machines may go wrong, people may trip over things or employees may put each other in danger. In these circumstances they may decide to claim compensation, if they have been injured.
You will have to use a lawyer and they will be able to look in to the details. The employee will need to prove that the accident was not their fault and you will be wanting to show that it was. Some cases are more complicated than others, for some the injury can show what happened and who was at fault, sometimes another employee will admit they made a mistake that caused. If it was found that it was your fault the this is where your insurance will come in.
It will protect you against having to pay the compensation. Of course, it is likely that your premiums will go up, but that will not be so bad as having to find a big sum of money in one go. You will have to find the money to pay the lawyer as well, although your insurance may cover the cost of that too.
